20 years in rescue

After 20 years working in rescue, I have learnt how difficult the journey can be as a dog owner and have seen all the different challenges our dogs face. I have been lucky enough to be a part of thousands of dogs finding their new home and supported just as many people just trying to do their best for their dog.

In that time I studied at Bristol in Animal Welfare, Behaviour and Rehabilitation, attended many training courses, workshops and conferences. But choosing to stay hands on, working directly with dogs kept my practical skills at a high level. Learning from the best teachers, the dogs!

A man wearing a dark cap, blue fleece jacket, and earbuds crouches down to pet a brindle-colored dog with a yellow harness on a grassy field. The man has a beard and is squinting. The background shows a cloudy sky and a white fence.
A dog holding a tennis ball in its mouth, wearing a harness, with two people walking in the background on a grassy outdoor path.

I have been there!

The regrets, the doubts, the tough decisions, the wins, the losses. Having adopted and fostered many rescues, I have had my fair share of sleepless nights, chewed up furniture, mopping up and stressful walks.

Client Support

Joint effort uses the same principles for clients as dogs

No judgement, no blame, just solutions.

We are all capable of beating ourselves up, why work with someone who joins in? Why work with someone who shames other people online without context or understanding.

Work with Joint Effort.

feel heard, feel supported.

Leading the way in welfare conversations

My philosophy is “welfare first and behaviour change will follow”. Not just focussing on improving welfare of all dogs we interact with but also having the tools to understand how our dogs are feeling.

This empowers us to not just do better, but know exactly how we can achieve it.

That’s why I am working towards the development of a validated Welfare Assessment Tool to help guide carers and support effective decision making
